What to expect on Sundays
Where are you located?
Fairmount is on the northwest corner of Fairmount and Saratoga, a block east of Snelling Avenue between Grand and St. Clair, just down from Macalester College. There is only on-street parking, so you may have to walk half a block if you arrive just when worship is starting.
What are your worship services like?
Our worship is a gathering of Christian community. You’ll hear people sharing the best and worst of their week in community time. You’ll hear adults, youth and children sharing their musical gifts in the choirs and bell choirs, plus other ad hoc groups mixed in. Sermons generally follow the lectionary, but connect it directly to everyday life. When you come in, you can sit in the back, facing the length of the church. If you choose to sit on one of the sides, you’ll get to contemplate some beautiful stained glass as well as the faces of those across from you. Expect about an hour total, or more if you end up talking with people afterwards.
What do I wear?
Whatever you feel comfortable in! You might see people dressed in jeans, sweatshirts, and ties worshiping side-by-side. We’re much more interested in meeting you than in what you choose to wear.
Where do I take my kids?
Children are welcome in all parts of worship, and there are activity bags and booklets by each entrance to help them through the whole service. You may take children up through kindergarten age directly to the nursery area before service, but many children go following the Childrens Sermon early in the service.
How do I learn more?
When you attend a service at Fairmount, make sure to fill out the attendance sheet to let us know you were here; you can note any specific information you would like on there, or put a note in the offering. You can also find out more in the “Welcome” section of the website, or by contacting us via email.
